DVD Cover analysis

This is the DVD cover for Missy Elliot and Busta Rhymes in Super Human . The title is eye catching and links with the colour scheme of red and yellow. The 2 artists are positioned in the centre of the image to show their significance. In smaller print the features of the dvd and title tracks are on the bottom of the image.

On The back of the DVD cover the Title is repeated in the same colour as the front but in smaller text. Down the left hand side is 4 still images of individual tracks on the dvd. There is a small blurb describing what is included on the DVD and talks about the different tracks. Below that is a list of tracks included on the DVD and who they are by. In smaller print there is small statement backing up the director. Also included at the bottom is a list of directors and producers and everybody included in the making of the songs. In the big white box you have a neccesary information such as running time, the date that the dvd was made, the certification ratings, special features headings, copyright information, a barcode, company logo and certification logo.

Spine:
It has a small thumbnail of the front cover picture on the spine. It also has the title on the spine in the same yellow like the one on the front cover. It has the company logo and catalogue number.

On the disc:
It has the same information as it does on the spine, but in a more simple font & black and white.

Feedback Analysis

We agreed with the fact that more boys were needed in the video to match a boyband image. We also think that there needs to be more close ups to show off lip syncing. This was hard because we only had 1 boy in the group as Adam did not turn up and we didnt have long to prepare. We think that more close ups were needed in each location. This would help with Voyeurism and help sell the artist more and overall would look like a better music video. We are pleased that the Sheets with lyrics on worked well and some groups were impressed.

Genre-Characteristics:
Met the conventions by using a love scene which matched the lyrics of the song, however a dance routine would've been more conventional.
Selling the artist:
The main artist is too far away to see the lip synching, therefore the artist is not sold very well at all as there are no close-ups or mid-shots.
The story involved would've been interesting if we could see the whole video but sadly we could not, so the voyeurism is good for what was available.
U2 58
It was good how the video had a story where the singer was after the girl. This could also be voyeurism. It was good how the singer lip synced and had the microphone. The artist was sold in this video because he was the main focus. The boards where a good idea and worked very well as they used the visuals/lyrics conventions. There was more than one location in the video which is a typical convention of the pop boyband genre.
To do it differently we would have more than one singer and add some dancing and girls.
cool

Group 59 Feedback

Voyeurism:
- Boys and girls shown
- Close-ups of the artist would benefit the video, so the viewer can see the lip synching clearly
Genre Characteristics
-Conforms by showing a boy singing about a girl, who we see
-Signs fit to 'pop' genre, making it more fun/colourful
Visuals and Music
-Lip synching is shown, however lack of close ups means it isn't very obvious
-Cuts are in time with the music
Visuals and Lyrics
-The signs match the lyrics
Intertextuality
-Karaoke: lyrics on screen
Need to sell the artist
-You can tell the lead singer is who he is very clearly

We thought it was a good idea. Although it wasnt a conventional pop video for example close-ups of the artist, dancing, costume change, so there was no voyeurism. But at the same time it worked agasint the conventions

The visuals and lyrics went well together. The visuals were either showing boards with a word of the lyrics on. This helped to back up the story as you can see more clearly what is being said. The lyrics also went well with the other visual which was the artist showing his love story.

The constant long shots did not sell the artist as you could not lnink it with the genre characteristics of a boyband song. They usually focus on the artist and its co-star.

At the start of the song the visuals matched the music with the cuts in time with the song this was not so obvious later on.

JLS 1 minute 'Beat Again'

This is our final 1 minute music video of JLS Beat Again. We only had 1 lesson to film this so it started off very basic because our original plan didn't work due to missing group members. We came up with a new idea. We realised that there is no close ups of lip syncing but tried to make it look like a proper music video. We added a few small effects and now know that we need to add alot more and have more time for planning.

Lip Syncing Task

Today We were given an old students music video and were given the task of matching a music video to the soundtrack. We had to make sure that the singer in the video had perfect timing with the audio track. This was done with careful timing and markers which enabled us to keep in sync. After the Sync task we added in certain effects to create a better and improved music video.

We used the same effects for the chorus. This was the Non additive and additive dissolve, which matched the tempo of the song. For the those eyes scene, we used the Spin3D for the introduction of the scene, and for the outro we used the Spinback3D to make the scene flow back to the original scene. We thought these effects looked appealing and helped us understand how to keep our videos looking good. This task taught us that when producing our videos we must keep in time with the track and make sure the lip syncing is perfectly timed throughout the music video.

Planning music video

We are going to re-create the music video 'Beat Again' By 'JLS' because we think I'll be easy to do and fun. We have 2 different idea for the video

Idea 1- We will have 4 guys dancing on a stage in different coloured outfits.
There will be lights focused on the stage and lots of effects. The guys will perform a dance routine whilst singing. We will use the stage in the hall because its convinient to use.

Idea 2- We would keep the idea 1 but also add a narrative to the video with the guys singing about a girl and this may include a possible funeral scene so that the visuals match the lyrics. this was better choice.

In the video we plan to have the outfits with each person representing a different colour to give off a boyband image.

Our Second Music Video would be Tinie Tempah 'Pass Out'

- The class voted that we would do idea number two.
- We need 2 other boys to lip sync the song, and dance.
- We'd still use the stage and the field.
- We will all way different colour shirts. possible colours, Grey,Purple,Green,Blue?
